Yesterday I sanded out the body blank and the maple top. A friend of mine has a thickness sander, and he has been nice enough to let me use his tools and machines. After the sanding, I rough cut to shape, and glued the pieces together. With the lack of a real press, I set up the drill press up to act as my clamp to lay these two pieces up. This morning I finished up the first body. The shape is attractive although I may tweak some of the curves a little when all is said and done.
I wasn’t happy with the lamination that I got from my first go round, so I made a few changes, and it looks like I’ve got a good glue up. my glue squeeze out is much more than the first time, and I used a larger and heavier press surface in the middle. By tomorrow (hopefully) I’ll have 2 identical bodies ready for pocketing.
